Press release -
London Northwestern Railway: Passengers reminded of Euston closure to main line services over Easter weekend
Passengers travelling on the West Coast Main Line with London Northwestern Railway (LNR) are being reminded to travel either side of the Easter with London Euston closed to all main line services across the bank holiday weekend.
Due to major track upgrades by Network Rail, there will be no services between London Euston and Milton Keynes Central between Friday 29 March and Monday 1 April inclusive.
LNR is providing alternative travel arrangements but is urging passengers to plan ahead to avoid disruption to journeys.
Jonny Wiseman, LNR customer experience director, said:
“Network Rail is carrying out essential engineering works which will help ensure more reliable journeys for passengers travelling on the West Coast Main Line.
“Unfortunately this means that no services will operate to or from Euston over the Easter weekend and I urge passengers to travel either side of the bank holiday to avoid longer journey times.”
Between Friday 29 March and Monday 1 April inclusive:
- Trains will not operate between Milton Keynes Central – London Euston. Rail replacement buses will be in operation between Milton Keynes Central and Bedford and Milton Keynes Central and Watford Junction via intermediate stations
- Services between Crewe and London Euston will operate between Crewe and Milton Keynes only, with onward rail replacement in place from Milton Keynes
- Rail replacement buses will be in operation between Watford Junction and St Albans Abbey
On Saturday 30 March and Sunday 31 March only:
- Services between Birmingham New Street and London Euston will operate between Birmingham New Street and Northampton only. Rail replacement buses will be in operation between Northampton and Milton Keynes, calling at Wolverton
Meanwhile members from train driver union ASLEF have announced their intention to stage strike action on Friday 5 April. Services will not operate on any LNR route as a result.
LNR services will also be subject to disruption on Thursday 4 April, Saturday 6 April, Monday 8 April and Tuesday 9 April as a result of members from ASLEF announcing their intention to stage industrial action in the form of an overtime ban.
More information on the engineering works is available here.
