Press release -
Reminder to passengers at Lichfield Trent Valley ahead of six-month platform closure
West Midlands Railway is reminding passengers at Lichfield Trent Valley that Cross City Line services will not call at the station for six months from Saturday 15 July.
Platform 3 at the station is in need of urgent repair and will be entirely replaced as part of a £5.8million investment by Network Rail.
The demolition of the existing platform and installation of a temporary step-free footbridge connecting platforms 1 and 2 will take place during a planned week-long closure of the West Coast Main Line starting on Saturday 15 July.
The work means that from Saturday 15 July to Sunday 23 July, Cross City Line services will terminate at Blake Street, with rail replacement buses in operation between Blake Street and Lichfield Trent Valley. Bus times are now available to view in Journey Planners.
Then, from Monday 24 July until January 2024, Cross City Line services will terminate at Lichfield City station, with rail replacement connecting Lichfield City with Lichfield Trent Valley. West Coast Main Line services to and from London and the North-West will resume as normal on Monday 24 July.
Jonny Wiseman, customer experience director for West Midlands Railway, said:
“I appreciate the lengthy closure of platform 3 will be inconvenient for our customers and I would like to thank our Cross City Line passengers for their patience while Network Rail carries out this work. Ultimately, these are essential structural repairs to the platform which are being carried out for the safety of everybody using the railway.”
Passengers are also reminded that the Burton Old Road car park at Lichfield Trent Valley will be entirely closed from tomorrow (Saturday 8 July) until Saturday 22 July to enable the removal of Platform 3.
