Press release -
Shrewsbury Flooding: Passengers urged to check journeys before travelling
Passengers are advised to check their journey before travelling, it is expected that train services will be affected by delays and cancellations. Ticket acceptance is in place with Transport for Wales and passengers can use their services to travel from Shrewsbury to Birmingham via Crewe.
There will be a bus operation in place from Wellington and will call at all stations to Wolverhampton.
Jonny Wiseman, customer experience director for West Midlands Railway, said:
"The safety of our customers and staff is of paramount importance and the extremely high water levels in Shropshire has forced Network Rail to shut the railway as a precaution.
"Passengers are advised to check their train before travelling and anyone travelling to or from Shrewsbury will need to allow extra time to complete their journey via road transport.
"We hope that water levels will drop enough for Network Rail to reopen the line by Wednesday morning but passengers are advised to check live travel information before setting out tomorrow."
Passengers can check live travel information by visiting www.wmr.uk/plan
Any passenger whose journey has been delayed by 15 minutes or more can claim compensation via the Delay Repay scheme - see www.wmr.uk/delayrepay for details.
