West Midlands Railway urges passengers not to travel on 19 July

Press release -

West Midlands Railway urges passengers not to travel on 19 July

Rail passengers travelling are advised not to travel this afternoon (Tuesday 19 July) on all West Midlands Railway services due to severe disruption caused by the extreme temperatures.

The Met Office has issued a red warning, with temperatures rising to 40°C – exceeding those on Monday 18 July.

Extreme heat can cause damage to tracks and overhead wires and a number of routes across the network have been impacted today, including around Birmingham New Street.

West Midlands Railway is advising passengers not to travel.

Tickets for travel today (Tuesday) can be used tomorrow (Wednesday) or on Thursday and if a journey has been disrupted by the weather customers may be entitled to a refund.

Jonny Wiseman, WMR customer experience director, said:

“We are advising passengers not to travel for the rest of the day as the heat has caused significant disruption. We can’t guarantee that services not currently able to run will resume today. We urge everyone to stay safe and keep hydrated.

“For anyone wanting to travel on Wednesday, please check your journey in advance as services may still be subject to disruption.”
