West Midlands Trains hailed for commitment to inclusivity
Rail operator West Midlands Trains has been hailed for its commitment to making the workplace inclusive for everybody at a prestigious national awards ceremony.
The company, which runs services under the West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway brands, has been nominated in the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion category at the 2022 Women in Rail Awards.
The awards showcase and reward individuals and companies who have made significant contributions to improving gender balance and inclusivity within the UK railway industry.
The nomination follows on from West Midlands Trains winning the Diversity & Inclusion in Rail Award at the 2022 Rail Business Awards. Last year the operator was named Most Improved Organisation at the FREDIE Awards, which recognise organisations’ commitment to inclusion.
Jo MacPhail, HR Director at West Midlands Trains, said: “Every employee should feel safe, respected and welcome at work and that can only happen by putting equality, diversity and inclusion at the heart of our business.
“Along with other recent recognition, this nomination is testament to the hard work our teams are putting in to make West Midlands Trains a place where people are proud to work and are valued for what they do.”
As part of its commitment to inclusion and diversity WMT has established three dedicated networking groups for employees and created a series of videos and webinars for staff.
The Women in Rail Awards winners will be announced next month (May 2022).
